Boston Open IBJJF Championship
Yesterday, Glenn and I competed in the Boston Summer International Open IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship, with Coach Daniel providing his expertise from the sidelines. This was the first time either of us took part in an IBJJF tournament, and I think it's safe to say we both learned a lot from it.
The start of Glenn's incredibly tough, 18-person bracket was in conjunction with the start of the tournament, at 9:30 am. He achieved a beautiful takedown, later escaped a kimura attempt, and fought hard until he ultimately lost by points. While the match didn't work out in his favor, there's no question that he did really well out there.
I had a much smaller bracket of only three women. After winning my first match via rear-naked choke, I moved on to my second match, where I fell behind by 6 points. I locked in a triangle with approximatley 35 seconds left on the clock, but I just couldn't get the submission. Still, I walked away with a silver medal. Not bad for my first IBJJF tournament!
All in all, the Boston Open was a great experience. We failed to take a group picture - or many pictures at all - but here's a small collection of photos from the day.
